Hey Everyone!
Great news! I just got confirmation from KAPLAN about the suture clinic that will be going down this Wednesday at the Kaplan Testing Center (next to Peach Wave) from 6 - 8pm. Regardless of whatever career path you all go down, I believe that having a variety of activities will always prove beneficial. So even if your not going into medicine, I highly encourage you guys to come to this event! There will be medical students and doctors coming down from the DO school in Lebanon to teach us different types of sutures! In order for KAPLAN to prepare for this event they need to know how many people will be attending so please RSVP with the link below!!! www.kaptest.com/suture VALLEY RIVER INN
We are looking for about 10 more volunteers to help us with registration for our valued donors and guests as well as helping us sell some raffle items. They will be providing lunch as well!! There is a pretty amazing opportunity coming up where we can meet some medical students from OHSU!
Event: The Pre-Health Service club is hosting a 'Small group Q&A session with OHSU medical students' Date: Tuesday, January 24th Time:7-8pm Location: Deady 102 The Arc is an organization that works with people of disabilities of all ages. They advocate enhancing dignity, expanding opportunities, and protecting rights of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. We have the opportunity to work with the children that participate in this organization on the first Saturday of each month from 10-4 pm. They are looking for volunteers to play and interact with the kids as well as their siblings for any amount of time you can give.
If interested, please come to the orientation meeting WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 18th at 6 pm in the EMU Metolius Room. Orientation is mandatory before being allowed to work with the kids and it will be no longer than an hour. The representative will share about the various disabilities and attitudes you may encounter as well as teach some sign language and other ways to communicate with the kids. For more information about the organization: http://www.arclane.org/ This is just a reminder that we have a meeting this Thursday at 6 - 6:50pm in Fenton 117. Please plan on being there if you would like to go with us on our trip to build a house in California over winter break. Also, we will have elections for the available positions listed below:
Treasurer (Take care of finances) Secretary (Record what was talked about at each meeting) Volunteer (Plan volunteer work) Public communications (Keep us in communications with the community as well as physicians/speakers) Social (Plan fun social events) Fundraiser (Raise money) We are going to have our next meeting this next Thursday, Dec. 1st at 6-6:50pm. This meeting is especially important because we will be giving you information about our house building trip coming up this winter break. I realized that many of your don't have passports so we will be driving down to California the day after new years and spending a week building a house for a poor family in Sacramento. Spots are limited.
There is a conference at OHSU this coming weekend. I need to know who wants to go tonight or early tomorrow so that I can register you. The website is attached below http://www.ohsu.edu/xd/education/schools/school-of-medicine/gme-cme/cme/acp-meeting.cfm
